For my fetish piece I decided to do formicophilia, the arousal to insects, or as I like to call them my kinky bugs. Each bug was painted in watercolor and cut out, then pinned into a handmade box lined with cork board.

Alice Stanne - Favorite Love Story

I guess 'favorite' and 'love story' might not be the best words to describe to Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. It's more like most unforgettable heartbreak of my young life. The books definitely do not qualify as love stories but for some reason the way they ended really stuck with me. I was also probably very jealous that people's souls were animals who hung around their person, talking with them and being their closest friends.

Alice Stanne - #nofilter Valentine

I thought about the true meaning behind different gifts of Valentine's Day candies. So many of them seem so trivial and not particularly expressive of love at all. You know a guy is a keeper when he skips over the candy completely and buys you a whole cheesecake, now that is true love. This is definitely worth looking at bigger to catch some of the smaller text.

One of my greatest loves is books. Beautiful, real, paper and bindings books. I love reading them, smelling them, owning them. If I shop for something I really don't need more of, it's books. I drew the spines of a few of my favorite books I read repeatedly while I was growing up.

Alice Stanne - Love Inventories (Pt.2)

In this book we decided to cover the first time my boyfriend came to visit me at my parents house. This was a pretty big deal for us; his parents didn't approve of our relationship and he had to say he was going somewhere else. But we had the most wonderful weekend going around to all my favorite places. Seeing how excited he was by the places I loved I knew he was the guy for me. (Again he drew the covers just like the first time.)

The middle section reads:
I took you to all my favorite places at home, including the Bistro for breakfast, where you didn't bat an eye at my carb intake.

I asked my boyfriend to help me with this project since he is the source of the inspiration. We made a little book cataloging all of the most important parts of our first "date." So I asked him to design a pattern for the cover of the book, while I did the insides.

The middle section reads:
You told me you had a joke, "There is a penguin on one shoulder..." and you wrapped your arm around me. "That's the end of the joke."
