Jason Cheeseman-Meyer - Favorite Love Story
I'm old enough now that Romeo and Juliet feels like a story about impetuous youth self-destructing through their adolescent view of reality rather than a love story. But Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash -- that's a love story. Two people, married to other people when they met, famous, self-destructive, painfully addicted, but they pull it together, and endure for a lifetime, living together, working together, rarely leaving each others' side. It's not a pretty story, but it's a powerful one.

My apologies to Lee Moyer if it seems like I'm criticizing his choice of Romeo and Juliet! I'd written my writeup before he'd posted. And my "DANGIT!" to Jeanine Henderson, who beat me to the punch.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love seeing different takes on the same subject! Nice piece, Jason!
DeleteNot at all. I wrote you a note before, so apologies if I'm redundant.
ReplyDeleteI grew up with Cash and Carter, and love them. Esp. those fine spare American recordings late in life. :) Conversely, I'm not a huge R&J fan. They were just necessary precursors to today's duo. :D
My very best wishes,
Lee
I didn't get your note! Now I feel I've missed out.
DeleteKeep rockin' all those "Small Gods" pieces -- I'm really loving them.
Are these art pieces being offered for sale?
ReplyDeleteI would bet most of them are. Mine certainly are.
